George Brown College 喬治布朗學院
George Brown College (GBC) 喬治布朗學院成立於1967年，位於多倫多，是加拿大最著名的技職學院之一。 說到GBC大家最推薦的就是其「餐飲學院」以及「商學院」。今天我們就請到了今年從商學院Project Management畢業的學生Lily分享一下她在GBC上學的 心得 。
你讀的是什麼課程呢？
我是唸「專案管理」 Project Mangament的 Postgradate Certificate，是一個8個月的專業學程，畢業後可以申請1年的工作簽證。
為什麼選擇多倫多？
怎麼又是這個問題(笑)，到了這邊一開始認識新朋友，或是老師，都常常會問留學生 why Canada? or why Toronto? 開學前，大家先準備好這題的回答XDD
老實說，我自己選擇多倫多並沒有什麼太大的原因。來加拿大念書的契機是有親戚在溫哥華，想說在國外體驗念書、工作的生活，於是就先在網路上爬文做功課，看看溫哥華的學校，但後來發現自己想讀的科系在多倫多比較多學校選擇，所以就來多倫多唸書了。
為什麼選擇George Brown College？
不確定是否可以當作其他人的參考，我只是因為科系選擇了GBC。
其實我當初有申請兩間college，一間是Seneca的Digital Marketing，另一間是GBC的專案管理，兩間都有入取，當時蠻猶豫的，因為本身的工作背景跟社群行銷相關，但又覺得未來的路不見得一定要繼續待在社群行銷，所以跟家人還有我以前的老闆、上司聊聊之後，覺得可以就讀專案管理來提升自己的能力，因此選擇就讀GBC。
GBC上課心得
天啊，現在回想起來，8個月實在過得好快。
還記得第一週，因為口音的關係，其實我很常聽不懂我的印度同學在講什麼XDDD 但班上好多印度人，我最好的朋友也是印度人。一開始很多時候我都只是安靜的聽他們聊天，但沒有參與。但不用擔心，慢慢你就會習慣，然後聽懂同學在講什麼了。就算聽不懂，請對方再講一次，或是問剛剛你說的是什麼意思，都沒有關係，在加拿大生活過的人真的普遍都很NICE！
老師對於國際學生也很鼓勵，例如要上台報告等等，老師每次都會說，知道許多人英文不是母語，會害怕上台報告，但在學校就是給你多練習的機會，不要害怕犯錯，你在這邊可以犯錯，出了學校之後工作可就沒機會練習了！
對於我的課程本身來說，我覺得有點可惜，整體課程安排有點頭重腳輕，第一學期超級忙碌跟充實，第二學期有種得靠自己學習的感覺。我跟其他同學都有跟課程導師反應，希望他們未來會調整這個課程的安排。整體來說，我很喜歡GBC的環境、資源和同學們，但各個科系的情況建議大家可以試圖找找看學長姐詢問。
課程結束之後在做什麼呢？
我的課程是在4月結束的，大約5月拿到畢業證書和成績單，接著6月就申請了畢業後工作簽證PGWP。因為疫情的關係，我超級快就拿到PGWP了！本來想說還要等2-3個月，但我15天就拿到我的1年工作簽證。
目前的規劃是在多倫多找工作，雖然疫情的關係，求職有點辛苦，但不想枉費自己踏出舒適圈的決心，也不想要浪費掉自己辛苦念書後獲得的工作簽證。
覺得GBC有哪些優點？
我覺得GBC的資源蠻豐富的，圖書館有很多電腦可以用，也可以借筆電、平板電腦等等工具。學校也有社團、有學生會舉辦活動。
另外學校也有「就業中心」可以讓你諮詢，比如說你想請人幫你看看你的resume啦，或是練習面試等等的。
GBC對「國際學生」挺關心的，有諮詢中心、諮商老師，如果你在異地覺得思鄉或是不適應，也可以預約跟諮商老師談談，當肺炎疫情爆發然後學校開始停課之後，我還有接到學校打來關心的電話，覺得真的蠻有心的。另外還有「學術輔導中心」，對於自己的術科能力沒信心的話，還可以請老師幫你看作文。
不過，說沒缺點當然是不可能的，在學校唸過書都知道一定會遇到好老師，也會遇到很懶惰的老師，或是很不怎麼樣的課，你都可以寫意見回饋給學校，通常期中期末都會有線上問卷，或是跟系上的課程coordinator談。
給想GBC的人一些建議吧！
建議開學前參加學校、系所開設的「新生訓練」，會有活動、校園介紹、還有針對國際學生的說明會，可以多了解國際學生要注意的簽證、SIN卡申請、保險等等資訊。我自己是因為飛機時間錯過了，只有參與後半段有點可惜。
另外，第一天上學可以提早到去找教室，因為有些大樓的內部設計，教室真的蠻不好找的。再來就是，多利用學校資源，都付了那麼多學費，當然就是物盡其用，例如外面健身房一個月都要50加幣，所以我都會去用學校健身房。
最後就是不要害羞，多交朋友，多跟不同人交談！有空可以多參加活動，去GBC不同校區走走，像是Waterfront校區就超美的，而且旁邊就是Suger Beach，我非常喜歡去散步、看湖水XD
